3D Printing of Structural Elements

The purpose of this project was to design a concrete mix, a printable 3D model using grasshopper, prepare and test slump mix, 3D print structure and ultimately test it according to standards. Over the course of several weeks, mix and model preparation as well as tests were carried out in the lab. For the mix an 18.2 cm slump was ideal with mixture contents limited to cement, fly ash, silica fume, limestone powder, water, sand, and superplasticizer. The choice for the 3D model is a column with a radius of 380 mm and a height of 950 mm. This column would consist of a twisted sine wave profile that got thinner at the center. The mix specimens and column would be tested under compression approximately 7 to 10 days after casting.
